Winner, Winner!

What a big day for our little team! So happy to pick up the NSW State Winners award recently presented at Melbourne Zoo. It was an absolute pleasure to team up with Harmonic Building Design to work on the True Zero Carbon Challenge. Mel learned some invaluable insights about the issue of embodied carbon in Australia’s residential construction sector in her role as Energy Assessor for the winning NSW entry.

We were simply stoked to collaborate on this 10 Star home design, using readily available materials and achieving a payback date on the embodied carbon of 2040!

Here’s what the judges had to say:

“A light bright 10 star passive solar design, True Blue Zero Co2 takes thermal bridging seriously with slab edge insulation and compressed straw external sheathing to the 140mm stud face. Sequenced insulation installation instructions and blower door requirements are detailed in the plans to ensure thermal performance on the ground. The outside is clad with battened off low embodied carbon fibre cement, compressed timber board, combined with standing seam metal cladding, all well known to trades, and widely available products in the market. Doorways, ramps and circulation spaces follow accessibility guidelines, and the rear living faces onto the deck and fruit forest beyond, beckoning occupants to the outdoors.

True Blue Zero Co2 is a high performance modern home, that follows the designers philosophy of Sustainability by Stealth. Lucky owners just enjoy the comfort, treading lightly is guaranteed by design.”
